A dream home is a unique home that is full of personality and style. It doesn’t matter if you just purchased a home or lived in one before, you can still design just what you wanted from your home at present and for the future.
So how do you design the home you lived in before? What did it look like? What did you wish that were different or different colors or amount of sunlight? Were you pleased with your home’s appearance?
Here is what you can do when you go about designing the perfect home for you:

1. Narrow your list of potential homes down. Look through magazines and brochures and research home magazines. Decide on what you really like. Are you Picky About It or just Decided To Live There?
2. Sit down with a pencil and pad and make a list of what you want your house to look like – anixture of color and style
3. Sketch out the dimensions of your home and see what works for you (now you’ve reduced your list to look at all your different homes). Get a scrap book or just a notebook and make notes on your homes’ features. You will begin to get a feel for what you like.
4. Now that the scrap book and notebook is full of information, draw a floor plan of your home, making it larger than life scale, view it to fit in with some of the homes in your area. You have to at least size the home on paper.
5. Make a list of what you like and dislike about each home you see and then write out a list of what you want from each home. Establish what you’d like to achieve and make sure that the floors meet this by listing the rooms in your floor plan; in your mind’s eye, each room is a miniature home. If you’re unsure about which rooms to rearrange, write them out on a separate sheet.
6. In your book, determine the rooms’ function and see how it appeals to you. You will soon identify what you do and don’t like about its style.
7. Now that you have a place to start, think seriously about how you can combine the information you have gathered and begin shifting the design of your home to meet this new combination of styles, colors and function.
8. You should now have a three dimensional version of your home and now know what rooms you want to reorganize. Finish off with a Draft of your initial scheme (sometimes called the blue prints). It will give you added perspective on which items you want to add and take away.
9. Now sketch the rooms you want to design onto the 2d board (for example the master bedroom) and paint it to show the different colors you want to use. It is now ready to be mixed with the colors of your bedroom and arranged in a variety of patterns or colors.
10. This step is where you get creative and contract out some of your design ideas to your general contractor. You and your contractor should take a look at the board with your overall ideas and determine what will work and what won’t work. You will be the one to decide if you want a mix of checkerboard paint patterns and color schemes or would you prefer to keep it more neutral and use colors that bring and represent the theme of a room such as, red walls for a patio with green curtains.
11. A lot of people are unsure as to whether they should paint or stain their home after painting it. Many people want to keep their gloss paint color as it could be difficult to maintain and it cleans easily. Stains such as coffee and red vinegar can also stain a gloss paint easily. If you don’t preservation or stain your home again it won’t last very long.
12. Once your first two plans have been drawn, you will know the color combination and then you can just create your space by selecting colors from your floor plan that have the shades you want.
13. Once your rooms are selected and organized by your general contractor, they will be a great guide throughout your project. The general contractor’s advice might be needed when you compare your look to an actual home. However, the good general contractors will be able to work with what you have selected to create a unique look with an added amount of style and character.
14. Occupier and the general contractor will work together to bring you the exact number of paint cans you need for your project. Once you have the numbers, the contractor can mix up various colors according to your request.
15. The house will become a work in progress, as you add and redesign the rooms to your liking. There is nothing more exciting than that!
